Feral: Searching for Enchantment on the Frontiers of Rewilding by George Monbiot
4.0
A stark reminder of what we’ve already lost from our environment, with detail on the perverse conservation efforts to preserve the UKs landscape in a depleted, sanitised state overrun by sheep.
Monbiot make a strong case for the harmful side-effects of mankind trying to bend its environment around a very narrow vision of what constitutes as ‘natural’. Despite our own best efforts to steward ecosystems back to health he suggests it wiser to selectively allow our natural environments to be fully returned to nature - meaning totally free of human interference.
The opening fishing / kayaking expeditions are a bit weird but it gets better.
