The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

2.0

i wouldnt necessarily say this book was good or that i liked it. however i wouldnt say that it was bad. and i think i may have enjoyed it in a way. i do have substantial beef with the editors of this edition for many reasons. number one. so many pages of introduction and biographical note and nobody wanted to touch “inferior races” (page 9) with a 10 foot pole. just shoddy work, if we’re being honest. complete lack of objectivity. and two. if youre going to include a map you could at least make sure that all the places mentioned in the book are marked on said map. like come on now.

i liked that this book gave me a lot to think about. mostly because i was trying to figure out wells’ batshit insane timeline. i dont think he really knew how to structure this book and it kinda shows. i think the dude was his era’s stephen king. mediocre in terms of writing ability but my god did he have come cool ideas. and he may not have written well, but he sure did write a lot.

in conclusion: rip hg wells, you were racist as hell but you would have loved the cinema
