A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones
3.0

Ok, so this definitely is not "laugh out loud funny" as the reviews claim, but it's cute, very reminiscent of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. Sunshine Vicram is a newly appointed sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico, the town she grew up in. A young girl has gone missing in the town, after having premonitions her entire life that this would happen. Sunshine is able to solve the case with the help of some of the citizens of Del Sol, other deputies in her departments, and her daughter, a high school student who is on her way to follow in her mother's footsteps. While solving this case of the missing girl, we are given breadcrumbs on Sunshine's past in which she was drugged, abducted, and then left in the hospital with no idea of who took her. This book is the first in a series and it did end on a cliff hanger, so I will be reading the next installment, even though I wasn't blown away with this. It had a lot of characters and at times I would get confused on who is who. There's a lot of extra fluff as well, making this book longer than it should have been. It was much lighter than I was expecting and easy to read in between heavy books. The banter between Sunshine and her daughter was so cliche and I think Jones tried too hard in that aspect, but otherwise, cute story which a bit of suspense.
