This was good! An interesting sci-fi concept, and the writing made it very easy to picture everything that was happening.
Speaking of the writing, I wish the author had done a little less “telling,” and more “showing.” World-building was explained very matter-of-factly, where I thought it could have been more creative. I also thought some parts of this book were written more like a movie script versus a book - that’s not bad, and it made it much easier to view the story in my mind’s eye.
I really did like our FMC. She is hell-bent on a death wish, in the way that I haven’t seen before. Every single thing she does is a means to an end, and it’s interesting to watch her deny the human survival instinct in favor of vengeance. I also liked how the author wove in her trauma from the brothel into her interactions.
While not my favorite story ever, I am interested in reading the next book! The interactions between Rain & Synali, Rax/Synali/Mirelle, and J and Synali will be really interesting.
