One Step Behind by Henning Mankell

5.0

By far my favourite Wallander book, at least from those I read to this day. Mankell's style always manages to captivate me, but there was something special about the contrast of the romantic Midsummer's Night and the cruel reality of the murder, and Wallander's disgust and dread.
Something about it still haunts me today (years after reading it) and I still have very vivid pictures of scenes in the book in mind, when only reading the so familiar (because recommended so often) German title.
