I was bumped this up on my priority list for two reasons: 1) it's often likened to Jane Eyre, my favorite book, and 2) the impending Netflix adaptation.

If, like me, you were expecting something similar to Jane Eyre, I would fix your expectations. You will probably enjoy it more that way. There are similarities, yes, but they are very different books. Rebecca is much slower, and has much more lyrical writing. The protagonist of Rebecca is irritatingly naive and shy, which makes for an interesting character study. However, it was Mrs. Danvers that stole this book for me. Her character is absolutely fascinating, despite her time on the page being significantly less than the rest of the characters.

To me, the plot was rather predictable. My enjoyment came from the characters and rich descriptions. It is definitely a character study, so if you're looking for a fast paced book, this is not the book for you.
