The Prisoner of Moorhead by Eric Maus, Eric Maus

4.0

This book follows 14 year old Max Windsor who lives in a tropical archipelago called The Bridge which is controlled by the Kingdom of Arkania. Life is good for Max until he and his best friend Jain, find a buried box they believe was buried by Max’s father who has been missing for most of Max’s life.  Following this discovery Max’s life quickly spirals out of control and before he knows it he is on the run from agents of the king and he is not sure who he can trust.

We have buried treasure, secrets, magic, legends, assassins, monsters, and enemies around every corner! Sounds great doesn’t its it! This is a fast paced story with a good plot and some great characters. I like the writing style and the world building was good, if not for the monsters and assassins I wouldn’t mind living on the Bridge myself, it sounds idyllic!

What a great book, I was’t sure at first but I’m really glad I stuck with it, I really enjoyed it, and as I said it has some good world building and great characters, with some red herrings and the odd plot twist thrown in for good measures.  It doesn’t take long to get invested.

Max and Jain have a very interesting journey up to the North and what a great ending! I can’t wait to see what happens next. This book turned out to be a 4 star read for me!
