Divergent by Veronica Roth

Beatrice Prior is sixteen. That means it's time for her to take the aptitude test that will decide what faction she is best suited for. Will it be Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), or Erudite (the intelligent)? Will she remain in Abnegation with her family, struggling to be the selfless person the faction expects her to be? Or will she leave her family forever to start down a new path in life? Once the decision is made, there's no going back. To give up is to become factionless and Beatrice is no quitter. But becoming a member of her chosen faction might be harder than she thinks, especially with needing to keep a secret that could get her killed. When she starts to notice things in her seemingly perfect society that don't add up, Tris slowly realizes that the secret she keeps might be the key to helping stop it all.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read. It's an odd mix of Harry Potter meets dystopian society. I'm glad the story picks up where it does. I enjoy all the world building details that are included. I do wish that more characters other than just Tris and Four were fleshed out. That being said I do love Tris and Four a lot. Tris' struggle with who she is and who she wants to be makes for an intriguing read. The end was a bit rushed, but since the book was already pushing 500 pages, and a debut novel, I can kind of understand the need to wrap things up. It's just a bit disappointing to have so much detail and then to feel rushed out of a story in what felt like too neat of an ending. But I guess having the complaint that you want more isn't really a bad thing. I'm definitely looking forward to the next two installments.
