As suspected, I enjoyed this book very much. I love the Blood and Ash series she is still writing and I had a feeling I would enjoy this just as much.  Is there spice? Yes

This story follows Calista (Lis) who is a lowborn orphan and knows nothing of her parents or any relatives.  The closest person she has as family is her best friend Grady. They lived at an orphan refuge together at a young age that was run by a cruel man. They left one night after two Hyborn Deminyen lords (basically immortal beings made by the earth and not “born”) went there looking for starborn children. When one of the lords noticed that Calista was hurt and it was at the hand of the cruel man who ran the shelter, he was punished for his actions.

They lived on the run steeling and doing whatever they could for food and shelter but moved often when people realized what Calista could do.  Until one day when Calista was 16 and her gifts helped the Baron of Archwood Manor.  Knowing how rare her gift was, they moved into his manor and she became one of his personal and favorite paramours. Only a few people who lived there knew of her gifts and it served the Baron well for many years.

Now that Calista is 22, she cannot help the pull she has when she gets a premonition.  Her gift brought her to the aid of a hurt Hyborn Deminyen lord.  This lord is more than he seems and so is she, but neither of them realize that fate keeps bringing them together.

I’m extremely frustrated that I decided to read this book when it is the first of a series and the next book does not have a release date. This story is somewhat similar to the Ash and Blood series from what I have read and honestly that isn’t a bad thing for me because I LOVE that series.

A strong willed young woman who is brave and wants to help people. A literal strong Lord who is basically invincible with just a few ways to hurt him. He will do anything to make sure she is unscathed. Similar to Casteel from Blood and Ash, he is amused by her temper.

Calista and Thorne’s connection is still very new and the book just started to make the connections.  The next book I’m sure will be very interesting because the author will not only give more details of that, but most likely will give more information as to where Calista’s powers come from and what she can actually do.  The cliffhanger also showed a very interesting thing that Thorne can do that was not mentioned in the book.
So many questions!!!
