Strong in the Broken Places: A Memoir of Redemption Through Wellness by Quentin Vennie

4.0

Quentin's journey is an honest and raw story of hitting rock bottom and defying expectations. This book reveals all the odds that were stacked against him and how he chose to create a better life than the one he was living.

Pros:
Quentin's point of view is very different from other health stories I have heard. His story focuses on his internal struggles of addiction and mental health issues, rather than physical struggles of weight and illness. The external factors that contributed to his struggle are very tough issues such as racism and family issues, which are thoroughly examined in the book. While I cannot relate to Quentin's experiences as a young black man, his story inspired me because he had to overcome so much. This is not your typical wellness story.

Cons:
The writing was not the best, but the story was compelling enough to carry the writing. I also wish there was more story after Quentin's started on his wellness journey.

I recommend this book to everyone.
