My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
5.0

Synopsis: Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since childhood when they were outcasts together. But now, after a skinny-dipping adventure goes south, Gretchen has started to act different, and Abby is worried. All signs are pointing to one thing: Gretchen is possessed, and only Abby can save her. They will have to see if their friendship is really stronger than the devil.

Thoughts: So I decided to make this my venture into horror, since I’ve been enjoying thriller so much lately. This book is so crazy and cooky and actually super fun at times, and it’s also disgusting and terrifying! I literally have nothing to complain about with this! The gore was super gross but quick and fast paced so it wasn’t unbearable, but definitely discomforting (a few moments where I had to stop and cringe). I was pleasantly surprised by how strong the friendship theme was in the book, and even cried at the end! Don’t get me wrong, I was so scared the entire time and extremely grossed out towards the end, but not traumatized, and I appreciate that. I’m not sure I’ll be able to handle very much horror in the future, but definitely glad I read this one. (Another thing to note is that the audiobook is free on audible if you’re a subscriber and doesn’t cost a credit and the narrator is very good)
