The Girl & Her Ren by Pepper Winters

4.0

This book picks up where the first left off, following Della after Ren has walked out of her life.

I absolutely devoured this. I felt a tug of affection for the first book, the foundation for something great, and so I dove into this eagerly and it was beautiful despite not being something I would normally like this much. The reason I say that is primarily because the book at times is over-the-top, it's cheesy, and some of it is just repetitive or too descriptive for no reason.

Despite all that though, it's a great story about life (not love, as Della reminds us) and I really did find myself rooting for the characters and their happiness. I love the writing and there are some phenomenal moments in this book that I enjoyed. I still hate the nickname Little Ribbon or Ribbon and the love story is still a little off to me (taboo, I get it) but it's still just one of those books that tugged at my heartstrings.

I'm split in my review. The first half is probably a 3 star, but the last half a 4, so I'll land at 4 since I liked this better than the first and it engaged me more. The downfall of the first half is it's just a whole lot of sex in the forest, which is great and all, but where this shines is when you start to feel for these characters and start to get some of the closure you've been wanting since the first chapter of the first book.
