A Rumor of War: The Classic Vietnam Memoir by Philip Caputo
5.0
Great book! I have read many books about the Vietnam War and this is one of my favorites. Yes, it was a memoir but it seemed more than that. He starts off somewhat gung-ho in regards to serving his country and as many did, becomes jaded as the goals of the conflict are murky. The battles for the same plots of ground over and over, the inability to tell the "enemy" VC from your non-fighting villagers and all other horrors are explained and make the reader feel as disgusted as the brave soldiers. This has been on my "to read" list for a long time and it was worth the wait.
