Fascinatingly terrifying horror. SGO has the power to move from tense, creeping, mundanity into absolute gut wrenching horror in ways that I am still amazed by. As a note, I read most horror on audio because I find that it gives more a creep factor for me and the audiobook production for this novel is top notch.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Death, and Death of parent
Since this book is based around an illegal elk hunt it makes sense that animal death and cruelty would be up there. The scenes of Louis hunting the elk calf around which the book is centered is visceral . Animal cruelty and death also tagged for the death of multiple dogs in this book. If dog death is a particular trigger for you, this might not be your book.
