3.5 stars- I thought this book was slightly better than “okay”. Overall, I didn’t enjoy the lack of a strong female character, nor that there wasn’t much character development with the characters we did get. The magic system seemed too unsystematic and arbitrary for my liking, and I would’ve liked more explanation on the different types of power-wielders (i.e just more world development). Another factor that brought my rating down was that there were a lot of “convenient occurrences,” and apart from one big revolving mystery, it seemed like the other conflicts or issues were resolved too quickly/tossed into the background.
