I listened to this as an audiobook, and I think the best part of it was the voice of the male actor. I gave this book 2.5 starts, but that doesn't mean it was bad. It was just not the type of book I was looking for at the time of listening. I enjoyed it, but ultimately I like books with a more diverse plot, larger cast of characters, and more character development. But it was entertaining, and it was dark as advertised. Be prepared for some graphic intimacy as well as graphic gore. Set in academia, with main characters relationship centered on scientific experiments with insects and medical science. Definitely mature content. Slightly fantastical because of the made up disease, but otherwise nothing fantasy or paranormal.
