i went into this one completely blind and it was one of the big surprises in the collection so far! the way the story of an undercover agent infiltrating a gang to investigate whether they kept a dangerous ghoul as a killing tool unfolded was incredibly fascinating. from the setting to the narrative structure, the atmosphere and the cast of characters - literally everything screamed gripping quality. i loved all the reveals as the story went on, and found the world infested with ghoulish creatures full of potential for an even longer novella. the final reveal about the main character and her goals made me wish for even more stories in this verse, but as a short story it stands fairly well on its own too.
