This is the third Jeannette Walls book I’ve read and I definitely liked her other two (The Glass Castle & Half Broke Horses) better. I think writing from the perspective of Bean was a challenge and I had trouble gauging her maturity throughout the book. I honestly found most characters to be pretty one-dimensional, which is weird because I felt like Walls did such a great job at creating multidimensional characters in her other books I read. Still a good book, I definitely wasn’t expecting the direction it took in the last ~100 pages. I love Walls’s style of writing, something about it just keeps me glued to the pages, I guess her other two books just left me thinking about them for so long and this one isn’t doing that as much.
