This is a series I had wanted to start on since long. This book gets the series off to a good start. I know there are a lot of books, and I am not sure I can really catch up. But will be sure to read a few more.

There is a short section at the start where five people bury a body in Rowley Regis, Black Country in 2004. The story then moves to the present day. Teresa Wyatt senses danger and she is right to. A masked figure drowns her in the bathtub. She tries to say something to defend herself but does not get the chance. Detective Kim Stone arrives on the scene. The others in her team are Stacey, Bryant & Kevin. The motive is unclear, with Kim gradually understanding that there are links to past events as another murder follows. There are some differences in how Tom, the next victim is murdered though.

This first book sets up Kim Stone’s character excellently; as a no-nonsense cop willing to stray to the edges of the permissible to solve the case. The plot is good (a bit of a dark story), as are the procedures. The story comes together well with what happened many years back becoming clear. There is a nice twist in the end, which I liked as well.

I look forward to reading more of the series.
