The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois
by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers
A historical fiction novel that I really enjoyed reading. It was kind of a back in forth of an African-American family who were descendent of slaves on a plantation in Georgia to the present day family learning their history. It was intriguing and it draws you in to the time before the American Civil War, slavery thru the Civil Rights Movement to the present.
The story mainly focused on Ailey Pearl Garfield who is battling her grandmother on becoming a doctor as previous family members have done. Ailey wants to be a historian.
Some part of the book will be hard to listen to but in the end it’s a beautiful story about a fictional town in the South detailing a families roots.
