Dialogue was spot on and a little too real at times. However writing style was too blunt and didn’t allow for as much nuance in characters as the show did imo. If this book was written as a play or a script I probably would have given it 4 or 5 stars tbh. But the dialogue was so strong that the characters felt very real and flawed despite over explaining in the narration. I understand why it’s so loved and it had a very satisfying ending for the type of relationship the characters had. Even though it wasn’t the best book I read it did make me think a lot about life which I enjoyed. Writing just fell flat for me

This is a small pet peeve but the  talks about English lit and all the literary references abt academic culture tried really hard to be super deep but just came off pretentious and like the author was just bragging abt how smart she is lol
