Little Mermaid and Other Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen
3.0
I’ve obviously already read some of the stories prior to this book, but the book itself was so gorgeous that I just couldn’t leave it there alone in the bookshop, and once it was in my hands I decided I might as well read it.
Normally, when I read classics or older books I try not to judge too hard on things that I don’t agree on, and obviously this book is full of that. You know, religion and standards of beauty and sexism and all that.
I would have been fine with all that if I hadn’t been deeply annoyed by the writing style. I have no idea what it was, but gods, how I loathed most of it. It just dragged and dragged and subsequently I was annoyed, and so when things I don’t agree with happened I was even more annoyed.
So... I’m giving a three star rating. And let’s be honest, most of it is because the book is so dang pretty.
