jessreads2much 's review for:
Bombshell
by Sarah MacLean
So I'm not going to go into all of the anachronism or fantastical elements of this, I don't read romance for reality and if you sign onto Goodreads you can see a million of those types of reviews.
I will say that reading this with no expectations and an open mind it is essentially Victorian era Charlie's Angels with Charlie being an extremely wealthy and woke Duchess. Their goal to bring down bad men in style. The premise was cute, the execution needed a little bit of help
Since I've only read 2 of Sarah Maclean's other books I can't be sure if she is just not good at introducing people or if all of her series are interconnected and I should already know them. So I can say the first 15% or so was a bit of an info dump and confusing. Once that was over and I had a general idea who these women were it was fun and silly and totally enjoyable. If you are an old school historical romance reader like myself you will see there's been a huge shift in the genre, inclusion of political statements, less blushing virgins and more sexually liberated heroines, etc. I am on the fence about where I stand in the debate sometimes it bothers me but in this particular case, once I turned off my critical eye I enjoyed myself
