Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

5.0

Out of this world ! Takes from this world and teaches you a thing or two !

This is my second Murakami book and it seems I am going to read all of his works ! This was amazing. He is without a doubt one of the finest authors out there ! The writing is so magnificent. And the story development is extremely precise. He lets us know things exactly at the right moment. And there is the element which he kept through out the book and guess what ? It is still there ! That's one of my favorite things. Even after the finishing the book, we are still left to wonder so many things ! And we can all answer that in any way we want ! All in all, one of the finest book I read this year.

Spoiler
The story begins quite abruptly which is fine. This crow boy wasn't really explain that much. But I liked his presence. The boy knew all about the curse and because of this crow boy, he wasn't new to 'another world'. That made it easy for what ever he was fated to do ! Kafka was a brilliant character. I mean, his love of the library is sufficient to like him. And Nakata was such a unique character. The way he spoke though reminded me a bit of Gollum from Lord of the Rings. I am just saying that's where probably the author got an inspiration from !

Talking to cat thing was one of my favorite things in the book ! I liked how he portrayed cats as humans and showed us that each cat has its own character. Black Cat was obviously the coolest. Why did Nakata lose his ability ? Fate ? This entrance stone is a lot more powerful than we think ! I mean the whole raining of leeches and fishes ? How ? What ? I do understand that author wanted to leave this to imagination. The secret was in the diary Nakata burned and it all has gone with him and Miss Saeki.

The sexual element was a bit disturbing ! After reading Norwegian Wood, I wasn't surprised by casual sex presented by Murakami even in this book. " OH , you have a hard on , let me give you a hand ". But incest ? That's a bit too much. Not that I am gonna lower my rating for this. It was a curse after all and not his will. But still, it bothered me.

And this book was hilarious at various points ! Awesome touch ! Especially with the cats !

Not gonna delay much and I will read next Murakami book A.S.A.P
