Letters to a Young Poet
by Rainer Maria Rilke
Update: sometimes you reread a book at a different stage in life and it makes deeper more meaningful sense. And you see in that old self the naïveté, the need to be against what everybody seemed to love. Wish I had taken more time with this then but also know I had no frames to reference what these letters capture. I do now. Sadly, but also importantly.
Original Review: 2 stars: Got the feeling reading this that everyone who quotes from this quotes from a very small swath of harvestable sentiment. The rest is banal and/or unnecessarily obtuse. No way all ten letters are worth reading and trying to understand. Stick to the quotes you can pull off the internet.
