I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai

4.0

While I had issues with the writing/tone considering its marketed as a memoir...the story itself is so worth reading. The story has enlightened me to a culture and lives of others that I really had no understanding of before, and now I have a larger understanding even though still lacking.

While I do have some issues with the writing and flow of the story, this is one of those books where I would recommend it to all. But do know, the beginning is rather slow as Malala takes you through the history and culture of her land - her country. I realize the pace and history-packed beginning may be off putting to some, I encourage you to stick with it as the pay off is large.

I do plan to encourage my children to read this book, all of my kids even the youngest (I am looking into the book's youth edition)....the story is that good.

I Am Malala has opened conversation, and has enabled me to have a better perspective on various issues. It truly is a worthy story to be read and know.
