Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

5.0

In middle school I read "Between Shades of Gray," also by Ruta Sepetys, so when I saw recently that she'd released a historical fiction book about WWII, I knew I had to read it. I know all my WWII historical fiction book girlies can relate.
But oh my god. I read this on an eBook but ordered the paperback because I just want to have it in my collection. I usually kind of hate the split POV structure but this was so so so good. The relationships between the characters is raw and real, and the way they try to hide the secrets of their pasts from this new found family is so human. Highly recommend. I think this convinced me to re-read more of Sepetys' previous books.
