Did not finish book. Stopped at 12%.

Sorry it was to much. Racial slurs and Sexism, and characters acting like walking clichés. I've read a lot of this author but I feel like it's hit or miss in recent years.
What drove me crazy (the above set aside, because it already was enough)

those soldier go to a brothel over at shanghai. But are watching the Wolga River

did I miss something? What went wrong here?

They say it like it's a trip to the next supermarket, and not thousands of post-apocalyptic miles awa
