The Counselors by Jessica Goodman
4.0

This was such a fun summer camp murder mystery! I flew through it in two days, as the writing style was easy to read and understand, and the plot never had a dull moment. I love how the chapters skipped between “then” and “now”, keeping my mind in a constant state of needing to know more. The mystery was very much a “whodunnit” story, and I love that no matter what my guess was I was always wrong because there was another suspect just around the corner.

I liked the friendship between Goldie, Imogen, and Ava a lot. It showed the realities of growing up and growing apart while trying to maintain friendships. The camp was a safe haven for these girls, a place where they could revert back to what their friendship started out as before the real world came calling. This summer though, they faced a lot of issues that threatened their bond and made them question each other to the point of one being a murder suspect.

The Counselors was a great mystery in my opinion, with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting without overwhelming the reader. It was definitely more of a YA read, but I didn’t mind it one bit as it made for an easy weekend read. Nothing scary enough to keep you up at night, but great for those who love to play detective, this was a great summer camp murder mystery all around.
