This book disappointed me a little, given all the high ratings and positive reviews I'd read. I found there wasn't much that was new information for me, besides some of the chapters on HRT.

I think I was hoping for more guidance and information about the onset of perimenopause and how to identify the symptoms, as a woman just entering her 40s who sees the value in being prepared for the inevitable.

The book is written by an American doctor, so is very US-centric in many ways, especially when talking about doctors. I'm not sure many Brits can relate to regular appointments with 'your ob-gyn' and 'I hope you're getting your annual physical', especially when most of us struggle to get a GP appointment when something is wrong, let alone have regular health check appointments.

The book has a huge emphasis on HRT (although the author refers to it by the acronym MHT (menopausal hormone therapy) throughout, while still also writing out the long form as 'hormone replacement therapy', which was a little annoying - choose one and stick with it!). This was interesting and the one section where I did learn some things I hadn't known, but again very geared to the US healthcare system.

Overall, although the book does provide some practical advice (outside of HRT and promoting the author's own diet plan and recommending supplements, which conveniently, she also sells), it was mostly things that I would consider common sense. This book may be helpful to someone who knows little about menopause, but there was nothing groundbreaking for me in it.
