The Shadow of the Wind

This book was a struggle. It held no interest for me.
Daniel the main character isn't charming or interesting in any way.
It's structure reminds me of Citizen Kane. Guy interviews people who knew a dead guy. But Charles Foster Kane was interesting. Julian Carax is not.
For a book that posits the Devil has stepped out of a book to follow a boy around, it somehow managed to be bore me.
The male characters are all kinda sexist. Women are just love interests who float in and out of the story.
I cannot fathom why this book is so popular with 4 and 5 star reviews on Storygraph alone.
