Character
I'm revisiting the series after remembering them fondly for almost a decade now.
It's a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting to still enjoy them as much as I did as a youngin'. I like the characters and the setting, which kind of weaves itself out quite nicely with the premise: summer and first loves being sunny and a little adventurous but also impermanent. Then, Belly as this morally grey character in a teen novel is so interesting to me, I feel like we need more MCs that suck and make bad choices -to diversify the ecosystem (?
Style-wise, it is a very 2010s book, not very descriptive, but quite the quick read because of it. Characters are fleshed out enough, but can be a bit cliche-y at times. It's all bearable, but I definitely prefer other works from this author.
