The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

4.0

alright this is probably one of the few series i have started and completed within a year. which is rather remarkable since there is a series that i have been trying to finish since 5th grade!! this book was a lot of fun, and i have a bunch of thoughts about it.

characters/plot
ronan. my love. my boy. my favorite character. The Dream Thieves is still and will forever be my favorite book in the series for the reason of ronan's development. ronan still surprised me with the scene where he let his brother, matthew, go live with Declan to keep him safe from the demons, and the scenes with adam really made my heart pound especially their kiss. ronan has been someone that has surprised us all with his abundance of love and loyalty to the people he cares about. when they revealed that he was the one that had dreamt up cabeswater i was like..... steifvater has done it again. ronan deserved the world, and i'm happy with how his character turned out in the end.

adam. my other love. it's hard to phantom how smart and observant he is. one of my favorite scenes from him was when he comforted blue on her relationship with gansey because the amount of sass made me laugh. i also liked how he was down to go to cabeswater, with ronan, whenever he asked and when he was nearby when he dreamt. it was beautiful, and adam really did develop a tight bond with each member. my favorite scene from him was in the epilogue when adam went to visit his father and stood up to him, telling him all the wrongs he did. i was so happy to see a full circle come with adam starting the series having problems with confidence, and the fact that he was able to stand up to the person he was most afraid of was extremely brave and beautiful to read.

gansey/blue. there isn't much to say about them other than the fact that i have loved them since the start, and i was happy to read about them and witness their relationship develop. the scene where gansey and blue went to henry's party, and them being cutesy in front of people really made me excited about it, since they have been in secret for so long. i also really liked the scene where cabeswater was dying, gansey had to sacrifice himself, and blue was ready to give him the kiss of a lifetime. that scene had me because gansey was the person that had brought the raven boys plus blue together, and it really was beautiful to see the love and support the crew had for gansey.

noah/henry. noah and henry kind of parallel each other because as noah's life on earth was fading, henry was starting to become a part of crew. noah had a fading storyline (which kind of bothered me). noah's storyline felt incomplete, and he really was in bad condition throughout the book. you could see that he was starting to die, and it was awful to watch. the series started with noah being such a lively person, a person we would have never suspected as being dead and the fact that he finally passed away was heartbreaking. the scene where noah said to gansey "you will live because of glendower. someone else on the ley line is dying when they should not, and so you will live" i cried at this part because he was bringing gansey back to life for a third time, and noah was giving himself again for him. also the scene where noah's sister spoke at aglionsby academy and talked about noah/ the ravens analogy was not only beautiful but amazing to read about. noah was a beloved character and i really like him. henry felt nicely added to the series.

my favorite scene in the entire book would have to be the scene with henry, gansey and Mr. Grey where the Laumonier came back, and he distracted them by saying how their cars were parked in the wrong place, and they needed to move it. he pretended to work there and that part really bought henry and gansey time to escape. i really enjoyed it.

also i have failed to mention the plot that centered around raising the demon to destroy cabeswater by our favorite gal, piper!! again, piper was a mess, and i have no remorse for her dying because she sucked.

reasons it is not a five:
-very little of noah plotline (needed something a little more satisfying)
- more henry would have sufficed
-some parts did seem to drag a little bit
-also the little amount of maura/blue's psychics saddens me

all in all, i loved this book and i'm so happy with the conclusion.
