Bayou, Vol. 1 by Jeremy Love

4.0

reread. i remembered this being brilliant and truthful about the race politics of the reconstruction era american south and doing really cool work with american folklore to create a set of monsters that match and reflect the monstrous racism driving most of the plot points

all of those remains true. i did, however, forget how brutal it gets. i feel like maybe i should've warned the coworker i recommended this series to but oh well. they watch game of thrones, i'm sure they've got more than enough tolerance for violence
