The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

4.0

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book! I haven’t read anything remotely as enjoyable as this one. For all I know, I finished this one in no time. This is actually the first book I’ve read from Rachael Allen, and this is definitely not going to be the last one!

I love that this book kinda focused on things that needed to be addressed in the society, issues like feminism, social hierarchy and slut-shaming. The book presented those issues pretty well and even offered a solution for those issues. I also loved how empowering this book was. It really shouts GIRL POWER from page one.

The alternating POVs of the main characters really helped their characters grow and it shows that each one of them had their own depth and dynamic. Melanie Jane was the popular one, Peyton was a bit of an introvert, Ana was the hipster/loner type, and Liv was the extrovert. Each one of them balances each other, which made the book really enjoyable to read because despite their contrasting characters, they turned out to be so well in terms of team work.

The plot of the story was really enjoyable and cool. I found myself turning pages to pages because I can’t put this book down. The dares were pretty funny! It was fun and amazing to see four girls kick the asses of the football team. They’re definitely squad goals. I love how the book also highlighted their newfound friendship.

Another thing I really loved about this book were the words Melanie Jane introduced. Melanie Jane was a language enthusiast and she has these words with no direct english translations such as backpfeifengesicht, koi no yokan, and saudade. Each from different languages, which cannot be directly translated.

Overall, the book really spoke to me. Being a feminist, it’s really amazing to see books like this address what the society needs to see. For someone lacking interest in social perspective of the matter, this book can be an amazing eye-opener.
