The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena by R.L. Stine

4.0

I really enjoyed this, mostly because it seemed to go in a totally unexpected direction. At the start of the book it seemed to follow a traditional Goosebumps rhythm, and I found myself questioning why it was called The Abominable Snowman OF PASADENA when they were ostensibly travelling to Alaska to find the Snowman.

But then about two-thirds of the way through the story, it changes gear and everything falls into place, and we end up with a pretty fun and chaotic final act.

If anything, I think the pacing in this one needed some work - I feel like the shift away from Alaska could have happened earlier in the book, as the final act has a tendency to feel quite rushed, whereas there are several of the infamous Goosebumps fake-outs in the first 60-odd pages that could have been cut down.
