The Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher

Short synopsis: The action revolves around a small town in Scotland and a little mansion that is now inherited by Oscar, who is just the half owner, the other half of the house belonging to his cousin. He moves here with his new love, and then everything revolves about them getting ready for the Christmas party and people that would become part of it. His new girlfriend's great niece comes to stay with them, as well as her niece, and then they start preparing for the Christmas party.
This is one of those cozy heartwarming, feel good books, where people are nice, they live in a tight knit community, everything is sweet, everything is great, without being cheesy or over the top. I liked every single character in this book, the whole plot was smooth and comforting. Don't expect any type of thriller or mystery wrapped in a riddle or anything like that, the action is soft and it's something you want to wrap yourself in when you're down or you don't feel good. You want to read a book like this to uplift your spirit, to make you believe in a second chance to love, because this is what is all about... every single couple in this book is at that point in life, where either the spouse died,or left or there was a divorce, and now it's time to give love a second chance.
Rosamond Pilcher has this unique quality of bringing you into the story, making you love her characters, and the cozy atmosphere and making you want to stay within it. This is one of those books that I wish it had been a series, and I would meet these characters later on, see how their life evolved, see what's the next chapter in their lives.
I highly recommend it. I loved it way more than the "Shell Seekers", but not as much as "September", which still remains my favorite book by Rosamond Pilcher. After being fairly disappointed by "The Shell Seekers ", this book just reminded me what a great writer she actually is, and just made me think how I can't wait to read another of her books. Happy reading, everyone! π
