After the Game by Abbi Glines
4.0

I'm sort of crossing my fingers that somehow this series will improve and After the Game did. Thank goodness and I'm sure I'll be continuing the series.

Riley Young returns in the small town of Lawton with her parents and daughter, Bryony, so they can take care her grandmother with Alzheimer's disease. Two years, people shamed and threw hurtful words her way when Rhett Lawton raped her. It saddens me these people did not protect nor defend Riley. She's a victim here and these people choose to take Rhett's side. She ends up lonely from having no friends. Her family's support gave her strength to overcome the lowest point of her life. Then one night, Brady Higgens saw her and her daughter soaked in the rain and offers to take them home. She knows he's a good guy but he didn't trust him. Will she change her mind by his efforts and change of heart?

I like Brady. He's sincere, thoughtful and humble. Though he was wrong about Riley in the past, he apologized and tries making up for his mistakes by being her friend. His assurance made her feel at ease and she's thankful for it. Their story was a happy ending and less dramatic than the previous two books.

The only thing I didn't like: The rape issue wasn't fully addressed. Riley may have forgiven Rhett and I like she does not hold grudges. It's good she's optimistic but it's unacceptable for me Rhett wasn't punished for his crime. He raped her and got away with it? Where's the justice in that? It's horrible and bullshit. I'll take away one star for that.
