This may very well be one of the best things I’ve ever read! So beautifully written. So thought provoking. So many important themes covered. And all captured in such a short read. I am in awe. And the fact that this book was born of music, a retelling of a retelling. One of them being the song The Deep by Clipping.
This is a story about loneliness, belonging, generational trauma, letting go of the past and holding on to our history and what that does to us and our mental health! So many wonderful metaphor’s throughout and so relatable despite being a book about mer-people who live in the ocean! I also loved the historical elements of the book and how these mer-people where born from pregnant black women who where thrown over board on slave ships! What a way to honour those lives and tell the story of them living on instead of perishing as they did!
Just truly phenomenal storytelling!
