Eyes Turned Skyward
by Rebecca Yarros
adventurous
sad
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
Complicated
Diverse cast of characters:
No
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
This is one of Yarros’s earlier books. She is definitely not as advanced in her story telling, emotional destruction as her more recent books, but as a contemporary romance goes, it’s fine. Better than a lot of them.
I know a lot of people bag on her for her military focus. But it IS what she knows. Both as a second gen military brat, and married a man in the military. She knows this.
The emotional toll military families pay, in terms of absence, worry, and living on after the ultimate sacrifice is foreign to most Americans because of our voluntary military, or because we don’t know families where generations have served in peace time and war.
The commitment and belief these families have for serving the US constitution does not deserve the bagging that it, and this author has received.
