I said in my review for Wintersong that I'm anticipating to read this because of the Goblin King and his story but what a let down when he didn't even appear much in this book.

This book was more focused on Josef and Liesl and on how broken their relationship is but I'll be honest, I really didn't care much about their relationship. It really left a bitter taste in my mouth in the first book when Käthe wanted Liesl's attention but Liesl kept brushing her off and telling her she's beautiful and marrying this guy, and the fact that she didn't even care to listen to their grandma that Käthe needed protection too because Liesl was always about Josef.

So there's that.

And overall, the book was just TOO SLOW. It didn't felt like it connects with the first one. The first book was heavy on the relationship with Liesl and the Goblin King along with the mysteries of the Goblin King himself, the Underground world and the previous brides before her. That all seemed to have flowed away in this book.. well not entirely but most of it.

Wintersong could've been a stand-alone. The ending was alright with Liesl leaving the Goblin King but instead of the numerous "I'm just plain" being on repeat, we could've had the Goblin King's history. But nah... oh, it could've ended too with the last part of this book added to the first book.
