I must admit that my very positive rating of this book mostly comes from nostalgia - when I was a child my mum would read all the Narnia stories to me and my siblings (still one of my favorite memories ever) and it's wonderful to dive back into this world as an adult (Did I just call myself an adult? I don't want thiiiiiiiiiis😭😭)
Anyway, the book is still amazing, although it was written for children there's still a lot to discover here even if you are an adult (😭). The story is funny and the tone lighthearted but at the same time it's far from being shallow and contains some beautiful philosophical thoughts. As a catholic person I especially appreciate the religious dimension of it - I think that the catholic faith is really really beautifully represented here and I feel like the depth of the conveyed religious messages is perfect for children. Sadly this books goes a bit further from this symbolism than the first part, my impression is that this part is a bit more entertainment-oriented but it's still a great continuation. I LOVE the world, I love the characters, the animals, the trees, just generally the vibe.
One thing that didn't annoy me at all when I was a child and that sadly does now is how this book sticks to the traditional gender roles. I got quite angry when only Peter and Edmund participated in everything that was battle-related while Lucy and Suzanne played with Aslan in the meantime🙄 Woman can kill people too!!!!!! Also I feel like Peter and Edmund were getting much more respect from everyone because they were men... Well, I guess this way of thinking was more normal at the time when the book was written and I should be happy that it's changing.
In general I still love Narnia and I'll definitely go on with the rest of the books <3 But WHAT DO YOU MEANALL THE BOBERS WENT EXTINCT ????!!!😭😭😭😭😭
