The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
4.0

Format: AUDIOBOOK

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. Normally, I get sick of long books pretty easy. I don't like the thought of continuing the same book for a long time. But The Pillars of the Earth contained such likable (and hate-able) characters, that I didn't get sick of it until about...maybe the last quarter of the book. That's part compliment, and part...not.

The Pro: Most of the book is unputdownable, in my opinion. I started listening, thinking that this book wasn't my thing, but it took no time at all for me to get hooked.

The Con: This book goes on way longer than it should. The ending felt rushed, while at the same time, didn't conclude fast enough. There comes a point where it feels like Follett started to lag on the character development and focus completely on tying up the plot. It got so bad that when the book ended, I took a sigh of relief. "Yes! It's finally over and I can get on with my reading life!" Although, keep in mind, that I still loved most of the book.

Do I recommend it? Maybe. Definitely read the first half at least.
