The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid

adventurous dark mysterious slow-paced

WHAT. HAPPENED. The beginning of this book was good and then it only gets worse and worse! This novel could be easly divided in two parts: the first half was absolutely beautiful and engaging with a great pacing, a flowery and evocative writing style and the worldbuilding (inspired by hungarian folklore!!!) was simply wonderful. BUT THEN the narrative became ripetitive, the characters made dumb and absurd decisions, the plot got lost and was stretched so much that there were so many ridiculous and far-fetched scenes that didn’t make sense at all. I absolutely hated how the last part ruined the brilliant beginning of the story. To me the biggest issues that butchered this novel are 1) the lenght and 2) the mix of mythologies, unnecessary subplots and absurdities at the end of the book. Tanto fumo, niente arrosto. (Also…you can’t tell me that Gaspar isn’t just a really lame Zuko)
