The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

5.0

One word review: Adorable.

Frances is a talented dressmaker who works for a horrible boss in France at the "dawn of the modern era." She is instantly fired when she listens to the person wearing the dress ("make me look like the devil's wench") instead of her mother who is trying to marry her off. Luckily, she is snatched up by none other than the Prince. Prince Sebastian loves her designs and shares his secret with her-at night, he becomes Lady Crystallia and flits through Paris society. Their friendship grows until it becomes clear that to keep the Prince's secret, Frances must sacrifice her own dreams.

My brain kept going "but, this could never..." at many things that happened in this graphic. In reality, the devil's wench dress probably would have gotten the wearer thrown in an asylum and the king and his men would not wear dresses for a fashion show just to support his son. I didn't care. It's that lovely and is a sweet read of kindness, friendship and family that gives a moment of joy you won't regret.
