This could be me but I was struggling to get into this book, maybe cause I’m coming from reading a Brandon Sanderson that this was a hard transition for me. I just  wasn’t connected to the characters and it made it hard for me to lock in, my fave was Lan and the expectations placed upon him, but the rest were just average. I really enjoyed this world as it reminded me of Yakuza games and I like the magic powers as it was easy to understand. I wish we had more action the magic was so cool and it’s always talked about but was not used much. This book had unexpected twists and a great clan war which is why I’m rating it a 4 star. Will definitely read the next in the trilogy !
