I’m not going to lie, Nero by S.J. Tilly was a damn good time! I was on the verge of a book slump and needed something completely out of left field. Enter Nero. Our unhinged head of the Alliance mafia man who quite literally falls in love with our deer in the headlights FMC, Payton, upon climbing onto her apartment balcony while running from the police. I’m not joking. Was this story over the top? Yes. Was it unbelievable? Yes. Was it exactly what I needed at the time? 100% yes. The vibes were vibing!
While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Payton, Nero made this story. The way he falls for this girl and immediately starts fighting her demons is adorbs. Does he stalk her a bit? Maybe, but we can ignore that red flag as long as he’s getting revenge on those that did her wrong in the past right? Right?? Oh, and did I mention this big bad hunk of a man likes to cuddle? Hook, line, and sinker. Those flags are slowly turning green.
We did get some action and suspense towards the end of the book that made things exciting. It’s going to carry over to the next books, so I’m intrigued how things will play out in King’s book. I liked his character throughout Nero’s, and I know he’s going to be just as, if not more, unhinged as Nero. Grumpier though. I’m not complaining.
