Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life by Marshall B. Rosenberg

1.0

I really wanted to like this book, and thought the topic areas had so much potential though the actual content totally failed to deliver, in my opinion. The examples provided baffled me because I can’t imagine actually interacting with other indignant people by repeating back to them the causes of their anger and not sounding super patronizing. I don’t disagree with the methods proposed by the author but think that the extent to which he proposes a methodological approach to conversations is just not applicable in day to day life. I also felt like there was no real attempt at reaching a compromise in a lot of what was discussed, just ways to get to the root cause of a problem. I would have liked to have seen more of how to take action based on that.
All in all, I think there are other books that could definitely address this better and be more to-the-point about how to have EFFECTIVE conversations, not just nonviolent ones that could have no true purpose.
