i found it to be a bit of a slow start but the last 250 pages went by in a blink. the quick perspective transitions kept me engaged and it did read as if it was a reality show (which i’ve heard was the goal of the author). i had big expectations since the short story version has been my favourite read for the past five years, and i think that the novel really stood on its own two feet. i appreciated that you can see the short story as the spine of the book. this was a heart wrenching and very real reflection of the capitalist dystopia we are currently living in. i think of it less as sci fi and more as a deep social critique that truly isn’t so far off from what is currently happening.
