Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent

dark emotional sad medium-paced

2/5 Stars

First & most importantly, this book is dark. This book has sickening graphic detail on rape, kidnapping, torture, & pedophilia. If you are a sensitive reader I strongly, strongly suggest you do not read this book.

Aside from the horrific nature of this book, it also wasn’t good. At times I felt the author was glamorizing kidnapping. I know that two of the characters were sick people & it was their internal monologue we were hearing but there was too much about why they thought it was okay to be doing what they were doing. I truly think in the wrong hands this book would give bad people lots of ideas on what they could do.

The book is told in multiple POV. I usually am such a fan of this but this book just wasn’t it. Sally, our main character is insufferable. I know a lot of people like her character but omg, not me. She also had made so much progress as a person & then in the last 10 pages we are just going to take all that away from her?? Seriously?? There is absolutely no character development here. The second character Peter has a more interesting storyline/kept me more engaged but it is very dark & he ends up getting exactly what he wants which is bullshit.

Overall I don’t recommend this to anyone. Horrible. There is also no mystery or wonder in this book. It is extremely predictable & there was not one plot twist that I didn’t see coming miles away. I’m genuinely confused on how the ratings are so high.
